Sedation Dentistry in San Francisco, CA
For a Calm and Comfortable Dental Experience
Some people avoid going to the dentist for many years due to anxiety or after a negative experience in the past. However, regular dental appointments are an important part of maintaining good oral health. At Symphony Dental Studio, we believe everyone deserves to feel comfortable and at ease during any type of dental treatment. We offer sedation dentistry in San Francisco, CA, to children and adults so that every patient can have a positive and comfortable experience at the dentist.
How Can Sedation Dentistry Help?
Sedation dentistry can help many patients with varying health needs or levels of anxiety. Many adults who do not regularly see a dentist do so because they feel embarrassed or have anxiety about undergoing treatment. With sedation options, we can help patients relax and work on establishing a positive relationship with the dentist.
Dental phobia is a real and overwhelming condition that many people face. Whether it stems from a fear of needles or a negative dental experience in the past, the thought of dental treatment causes severe anxiety for some people. Sedation dentistry is an effective way to help calm these feelings and allow patients to experience dental care in a safe and positive way.
It can sometimes be difficult for disabled patients to access proper care. At Symphony Dental studio, we are happy to make accommodations and offer sedation options to patients with disabilities. Sedation also ensures safety for patients who move around a lot and allows our dental team to clean and examine their teeth thoroughly.
Types of Sedation
There are several sedation options available. We will help select the right choice for you depending on your anxiety needs and your treatment.
Laughing gas, or nitrous oxide, is inhaled through a mask and creates a relaxed, euphoric feeling and mild pain relief. The effects of laughing gas will stop shortly after the mask is removed. We may combine laughing gas with oral sedation or local anesthesia if necessary.
Oral sedation involves taking oral medications prior to treatment. There are different strengths of medications available depending on your age, health, and anxiety level. We may use local anesthetic in addition to oral sedation for additional comfort during treatment.
Local anesthesia is administered through a fine needle directly to the treatment area. You remain awake but the area is numb, so you will not feel any discomfort during your treatment. Local anesthetic will generally numb the area for a few hours.
